ArcResc project proudly presents the Arctic Fire & Rescue Short Film Contest.

The subject of the contest is the Arctic Fire & Rescue. We appreciate good stories about arctic fire and rescue, arctic operation environment, climate change effects, people in the arctic and arctic related fire and rescue services challenges and knowledge.

Prizes:

  • Winner 600 €, Second 300 €, Third 100 €
  • Staff pick 600 €

Contest schedule:

  • Contest start 20th of January 2023
  • Film delivery latest on 15th of August 2023
  • Public voting 20th of August to 20th of September
  • The results will be published, and best films shown in the ArcResc final seminar 28th of September

Guidelines and rules

The films must be filmed in the following countries or regions: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Canada and Alaska. It is allowed to use content that is filmed before the competition time. Also, it is allowed to use content that is published for private or small audience in non-commercial purposes (e.g., social media platforms), but not allowed to use content that has been used in any competitions or commercial purposes. The film cutting and composition must be done during the competition time.

In the beginning of the film, an opening slide is placed for two seconds, which fades to black before the start of the short film. Klick here to download the opening slide.

The maximum duration of the film is 3 minutes (with the opening slide the length can be up to 183 seconds).

English subtitles are recommended when other languages are used.

The participants must have rights to use the film and audio material of the video.

The competition jury selects the ten best of the submitted short films for the public final voting. The final voting will be arranged online 20th of August – 20th of September.

The winners of the competition will be announced in the ArcResc project final seminar on Thursday, September 28th, 2023. The three most voted and staff pick films will be shown on the big screen in the seminar.

The project staff will be in contact with the winners and discuss how the prizes will be distributed to the stakeholders in the best possible way. The filmmakers will be responsible for any taxation on the prizes. Possible money transfer fees will be deducted from the prize.

By participating in the competition, the participant approves the rules of the competition and gives the competition organizer the right to use the film in the short film contest and ArcResc project events. The organizer has the right to upload the film to Youtube and Instagram platforms.

Participating

Participate in the competition by sending the competition work to joel.kauppinen(at)sppl.fi by August 15th 2023. We recommend using WeTransfer or similar service for sending large video files.

Write in the email:

  • the name of the short film
  • a short description of the film
  • the names of the film director and other creators and actors
  • contact person’s name, email and phone number

Technical requirements

Video must be Youtube compatible. We recommend landscape orientation and mp4 format with following settings: H.264 codec, 15-20 mbs, audio codec AAC-LC.

The ArcResc project holds rights to adjust the rules if necessary.
